A new poll of 801 likely Republican primary voters in Illinois shows that Businessman Donald Trump has pulled ahead of former Florida Governor Jeb Bush. According to the poll, Trump leads Bush 23.3%-16.5%. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is in third place with 11.0%, the poll said. Less than one-fifth of the respondents said they are still undecided (17.9%).
The live-caller poll was conducted August 16-August 18, 2015 by Victory Research. The respondents answered using both land lines and cell phones. The margin of error for the poll is 3.46%. Victory Research is an independent polling company that conducts semi-monthly statewide polls called The Illinois Poll.
Trump, who has been riding a wave of national polls showing a rapid rise into the top tier of candidates, is leading former Governor Bush among both male and female voters. Geographically, Trump leads Bush in every part of the state including the vote-rich collar counties, where Trump leads Bush 21.7%-16.5%. Former Governor Bush runs second to Trump in every geographic region of the state and among all demographic groups. Govern Walker is in third place in every geographic region of the state and among all demographic groups, the poll said.
Rounding out the top six in the poll are neurosurgeon Ben Carson (5.5%), Florida Senator Marco Rubio (5.0%), and former Hewlett Packard executive Carly Fiorina (4.6%). The other eleven candidates are all under four percent.
Among respondents who self-identified themselves as conservatives, Trump’s margin was slightly larger over Bush (25.0%-16.6%). Trump is also ahead of Bush among self-identified moderate voters (21.3%-17.6%).
